Viola Lessons FAQs

What age is best to start playing Viola?

Viola is a wonderful instrument that can be enjoyed by many ages, though it typically requires some physical development due to its size and the coordination needed for bowing and fingering. Children can generally start viola lessons around age 6-8, when they have developed sufficient arm length and finger strength for proper technique. It’s never too late to start, either!

What areas do you serve?

Lessons are offered either in your home, online for local and international students, or in one of our teachers’ teaching spaces. Contact us to see which option will be best for you. We currently work with a wide range of students, nationally and internationally.

Do you offer online lessons?

Yes! Many of our students and parents prefer online lessons because students progress while maintaining the convenience of staying at home. We find that online lessons encourage our students to fully understand each concept. It’s easy to simply move a child’s hand in a lesson, but having the student understand the reason behind it and fix the hand on their own is an even more efficient strategy. Take lessons from the convenience of your own space and skip commuting time!

How many times per week are lessons?

All students are welcome to take one or multiple lessons per week. Lessons are offered weekly for 30 minutes, 45 minutes, or 60 minutes. If you would like to have lessons longer than 60 minutes, get in touch with us.

Who are your teachers?

Viola teachers at West Amadeus Music Studio are experienced musicians who have dedicated their whole lives to mastering their instruments. Each teacher holds a degree from The Juilliard School and has an abundance of teaching experience. They are passionate about passing along the knowledge they’ve gathered over the years!

Do you offer performance opportunities or recitals?

Yes. We offer multiple recitals throughout the year and encourage all students to perform to help increase their confidence and artistry.
