Violin Lessons FAQs

What age is best to start playing violin?

Violin is a fantastic instrument that can be enjoyed by all ages. Children as young as age 4 or 5 can start enjoying violin lessons at West Amadeus. It’s never too late to start either! Our oldest violin student is 80+ years old. Whether you are looking to revive old skills, are completely new, or simply want a healthy way to de-stress, our violin teachers will serve your desired goals.

How will I know what size violin to get?

Your teacher will give a suggestion for violin size based on the student’s age and size. Your teacher will also recommend where you can find a violin and in some cases can even come to the store with you to test a few sizes if in NYC.

Adult students will need a full size (4/4) violin.

Do I have to buy my violin?

Violins can be bought or rented. For young students who will continue to grow, we recommend renting, since the size will shift over time.

What areas do you serve?

Lessons are offered either in your home, online for local and international students, or in one of our teachers’ teaching spaces. Contact us to see which option will be best for you. We currently work with a wide range of students, nationally and internationally.

Do you offer online lessons?

Yes! Many of our students and parents prefer online lessons because students progress, while maintaining the convenience of staying at home. We find that online lessons encourage our students to fully understand each concept. It’s easy to simply move a child’s hand in a lesson, but having the student understand the reason behind it and fix the hand on their own is an even more efficient strategy. Take lessons from the convenience of your own space and skip commuting time!

How many times per week are lessons?

All students are welcome to take one or multiple lessons per week. Lessons are offered weekly for 30 minutes, 45 minutes, or 60 minutes. If you would like to have lessons longer than 60 minutes, get in touch with us.

Who are your teachers?

Violin teachers at West Amadeus Music Studio are experienced musicians, who have dedicated their whole lives to mastering their instruments. Each of our teachers holds a degree from The Juilliard School and has an abundance of teaching experience. They are passionate about passing along the knowledge they’ve gathered over the years!

Do you offer Suzuki lessons?

Yes! The Suzuki method places additional emphasis on parent involvement, listening, repetition and a focus on learning to play the instrument before learning to read music.

Do you offer performance opportunities or recitals?

Yes. We offer multiple recitals throughout the year and encourage students to perform to help increase their musical confidence and artistry.
